Roig is a lighting intervention in an unknown space: a closed, dark and mystical courtyard attached to the old city wall of Barcelona.
Roig was one of the installations of Llum BCN 2014 festival that took place from de 7tn till the 9th of February, Organized by the city town hall to celebrate winter festivity of the city.
The festival aims to connect citizens with their own city and shows light installations in historic and iconic buildings that people don’t normally get to se. When it turns dark lights of artistic installations start to run, in these occasion there where ten of them, that build a brand new city. These Festival was inspired based on other European cities, where light becomes the main resource to transform urban architecture.
Roig is a lighting intervention in an unknown space: a closed ,dark and mystical courtyard attached to the old city wall of Barcelona. The idea was to involve the viewer in the history of the city through the walls that surround it, and suggest a change of perception of the space using light as the main source. In addition the intervention wants to revive the memory of multiples facts that have taken place in this palace. The same way that time leaves a mark in history, visitors make their own mark on the surface of red stained sawdust, at the beginning clearly defined on the ground, but that will blur as the hours pass.
